foot storm pipe. city officials say the big pipe was designed to safely transport a massive amount of water underneath this road steering rain water away from homes but somehow it failed. on sunday morning, the road caved in - the crater is now huge, 80 feet long, 30 wide and 18 feet deep. the failure is under investigation, but in the meantime, the race is on to figure out how to put in another drainage system. city officials say if there is not a temporary fix put in before the next storm hits ... it could be disasterous out here. also in the east bay... the amount we are expecting the rains to come back on tuesday. with a heavy rainfall on wednesday. the goal is to get down to this storm pipe by this time tomorrow as we can assess the situation. if we were exposed like this water would be the enemy when it comes to soil. if it came in

street in benicia tree removers were busy there today the owner of the home says, she was startled by her neighbor's tree when it came crashing down onto her home just before sunrise (chainsaws) >> i woke up at 4:30 and i heard a huge boom it could've been a terrible disaster. i anticipated and fortunately it did not come through the roof. the outdoor deck was there to capture the tree i do not know what could have happened. the tree could have gone any which way. it could have gone to the neighbor's house, missed the trampoline amazingly. and you can see it is resting right there. it did not come through any windows, we are very lucky. >> the owners said that in the did tree has withstood

guadalupe river is holding. much to the satisfaction of the residents, and the san jose water district. this guadeloupe river has been a problem in the past. the previous work has some helped it hold up. this was 1995 when the river flooded into the city causing a major mass. 20 04, the san jose water district began with a $10.6 million project removing sediment and allowed 7500 homes. this latest round of storms did not cause any floodings. this is what it looked like yesterday in the santa cruz mountains. a dry out after the saturation on sunday the latest road closures, and mop mud-with rob fladeboe

ro to north beach - at least that's the latest plan. the municipal transit agency has unveiled a new plan for the subway project. the project currently calls for the subway to run from south of market to stockton and washington streets in chinatown.

but now...muni officials want to see the line extend to north beach. the subway would go near columbus and powell street in north beach...where the abandoned pagoda theatre is. muni wants the city to consider buying the old theatre building and turning it into the north beach subway station. the subway plan is projected to cost 1.6 billion dollars - that's before the north beach extension...so the price tag would certainly go up if the line goes into north beach. the subway extention into north beach will be discussed at tomorrow's municipal transit agency meeting. >>pam: coming up the storm cleanup efforts. >>jacqueline: and latest forecast.
